Climate change is a global phenomenon, and the ability to scale greenhouse gas measurement technologies is crucial to managing this problem.
Existing sensors capable of accurately measuring greenhouse gases such as methane and CO2 have proven difficult to scale. And if it does not scale, it will not help.
Butterfly was founded with the goal of developing low cost, scaleable technologies to meet this need.
Remote Sensing
Our sun-tracking spectrometers measure the total atmospheric column of methane, CO2 and water in real-time. They are robust, easy-to-use, and completely autonomous. Networks of these sensors promise to allow the atmospheric quantities of these critical GHG to be cost-effectively measured across entire geographic basins.
In-Situ Sensing
Butterfly is developing a line of low-cost, fast and sensitive hydrocarbon sensors. Our proprietary technology is targeted for a variety of applications including leak-sensing in oil and gas production and distribution facilities.
